Maxi dresses are pretty and stylish and especially popular this season. They can be seen on the streets in an array of colors and styles, and usually reaching the ankle. Pros
- They are popular. Admit it, you’ve definitely seen them on fashion shows, in numerous store windows, and on women everywhere. More and more stores and designers are designing them.
- They are perfect for this year’s summer weather, which so far has not greeted us with extremely hot and humid temperatures. In this dress, you won’t be cold, and you won’t be overdressed when the sun comes out since they usually come strapless or on thin straps.
- Maxi dresses work in any environment, well, almost. Wear one to work with a blazer and nice flats or sandals, or cover up your bikini when heading to the beach. Tie a contrasting scarf around your neck when out in the city, and add a cardigan for the cooler nights.
- It’s sexy. The long length elongates the figure, while the extra coverage hides more than you want to show. And bonus: you don’t have to worry about having perfect, smooth legs while wearing this dress.
Cons
- This isn’t exactly a dress you can wear if your job or everyday duties require lots of running around, bending down, or climbing stairs. You wouldn’t want to be caught tripping up the stairs, would you?
- Usually made “for tall people only.” Most of these dresses come in very long lengths, which is just about right for the average woman (say, 5’4″). That doesn’t mean that if you’re shorter, you can’t wear a maxi dress, but it might mean you have to alter its length, deal with the long length, or spend lots of time looking for one which fits right, which may take a while.
- It would be a tragedy to be caught in the rain while wearing it. Just think: long, wet, heavy dress clinging to your legs, making it rather impossible to walk, while dirt builds up on the bottom of it.
