postheadericon Plastic Surgery: Is It That Cool?

Undergoing plastic surgery is a big step to take, and one that people must consider carefully. After all, this is obviously not the same thing as putting on a new outfit or trying on new makeup… plastic surgery, somewhat like a tattoo, involves making a permanent change to your body. Therefore, before choosing to take this route, you must be absolutely sure that you have considered the positives and negatives of your procedure, and that you will be comfortable with the results.

The Psychological Impact:

There are many reasons why somebody might decide to ‘go under the knife’. For some people the issue can be one og self-confidence, and the life-changing results of plastic surgery can be just life-changing. a correction to the nose that was too big or the breasts that were too small can influance a person’s life greatly. The confidence gained can lead to a better social life and in turn, improved relationships. For other people, the primary reason why to make a surgery may be due to the lasting scars of bullying as a child. The teasing endured because of those teeth or nose can have had such an emotional impact that the person has learned to live in a way that is designed to avoid the cruelty of others; refusing to smile or pose for pictures, for instance.

Public Opinion

Unfortunately, this is something that many people experience difficulty with when they have plastic surgery. Some people think of plastic surgery as “fake” or pretentious, and, essentially, frown upon those who choose to undergo procedures. If you feel that this will be stressful for you, you may want to focus on overcoming society’s perceptions before undergoing surgery.

Results

The whole reason that you are considering plastic surgery is to improve your physical appearance and/or preserve your youth. Even if you have a little bit of scarring, or you are worried about people disapproving of your surgery, you will achieve results, and will likely be very happy with the effects of your procedure. Most plastic surgeries can be very helpful in preserving youth and increasing beauty.

Possible Impact to Health

Plastic surgery can have both positive and negative impact to health. Positive is that a person’s sight may be improved with an eyelid lift, a person’s breathing can be improved with rhinoplasty, a person’s heaviness of the breasts can be reduced, etc. One can find a lot of benefits for person’s health, including psychological health. However, surgery in whatever form is still surgery. Specific types of cosmetic surgery carry their own specific risks, but some risks are common to most, if not all, procedures. These are: infection, hemorrhaging, paralysis, nerve damage, to name a few. Should you take the decision to approach a surgeon for an initial consultation, you will be given the opportunity to talk through the risks associated with the given procedure.

What if you’re not satisfied?

Cosmetic surgery is of course different to surgery for medical reasons. The results of medical necessary surgery is objective in the sense that it will work or it will not work. As for the plastic surgery, the results can be judged rather subjectively and a patient may be nor happy with the outcome. Scarring and brusising can be disappointing for a patient. To avoid this situation, it is important to be ready for this result and be as much as honest with your plastic surgeon about what you are hoping for.
